ALVALAB Offers One Stop Service for the Palm Oil Industry
By Redaksi Sawit Indonesia, September 25th, 2025
Indonesia's palm oil industry continues to grow and requires the support of reliable, accurate, and internationally standardized testing laboratories. Responding to this need, ALVALAB has strengthened its role as a provider of an integrated laboratory service (one stop service) with a wide reach, not only for palm oil and its derivatives but also for the food and beverage sector.
“ALVALAB is present as a One Stop Service with complete equipment and the latest methods that are constantly developed in accordance with the latest technology development,” said Jonathan A. Widakdo, Head of Business Development at ALVALAB, when met by Sawit Indonesia at the Borneo Forum 2025.
One of ALVALAB's main advantages is the implementation of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This system allows users to monitor the progress of samples in real time, know the estimated completion time, and even download the Certificate of Analysis (COA).
“LIMS has two functions. First, it acts as a tracking system, and second, as a data bank that can be accessed directly by users. So data confidentiality is also well guaranteed,” explained Jonathan.
Established in 1997, ALVALAB initially only served internal testing needs for essential oils and spices. Then, in 2020, ALVALAB began offering external services, connected to the LSP system in 2021, and obtained ISO 17025 and KAN accreditation in 2022.
In the palm oil industry, ALVALAB is capable of conducting tests for various needs, ranging from CPO, PKO, UCO, POME, fertilizers, soil, leaves, to boiler water and demineralized water.
“The demand for laboratory services in the palm oil sector is very high. In Kalimantan alone, the tests are generally limited to soil and leaves. Meanwhile, we offer a much wider scope, from Lampung as the laboratory center location, to ALVALAB drop points in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Pontianak.
“So users from Sabang to Merauke can access our services,” said Jonathan.
In addition to testing, ALVALAB also provides free consultation services for users who still need guidance in determining test parameters.
As a company providing laboratory services with international standards, ALVALAB places sustainability as a core value by implementing the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
“We use solar panels for operations, implement a paperless system through LIMS, and process laboratory waste in collaboration with waste banks. All of this aligns with the demands for traceability and sustainability in the palm oil industry,” said Jonathan.
Innovation and Future Direction
This year, ALVALAB launched a climatic chamber for shelf life testing, which can test the durability of products, such as packaged cooking oil. Next, ALVALAB is preparing to use LC-MS/MS for testing pesticide residues in food products.
“We guarantee 99.5 percent accuracy with the latest accredited methods. In addition, we boldly commit to timeliness: 5–7 days for standard analysis, or 3 days for express service. All processes can be monitored transparently through LIMS,” emphasized Jonathan.
With a combination of high accuracy, timeliness, digitalization, and commitment to sustainability, ALVALAB is optimistic about becoming a strategic partner for the national palm oil industry in strengthening export competitiveness and sustainability.
